The Valle de Lecrín is a unique part of Andalucia, one of the undiscovered treasures of the province, bounded by the Vega de Granada to the north, the Costal Tropical to the south, the Sierra Nevada to the east and the Sierra Albuñuelas to the west. It lies a few minutes drive from the more well known areas of the western Sierra Nevada such as the Alpujarras. Climatically it is protected by the Sierra Nevada from cold northerly winds.

Geographically it is in an unequalled position both for that which it can offer of itself and also as a stepping-off point to visit the close-by provinces of Malaga and Almeria.

Its strategic location offers a great diversity of places to see within a few kilometres on excellent motorways. There are rolling, wooded hills, the mountains of the Sierra Nevada with its winter sports ski station or the Costa Tropical with its resort towns and villages.

All these places are within easy access via the N-323/A-44 motorway which connects the city of Granada with the Costa Tropical, or the N-340 which connects Granada with Almeria and Malaga. The area has much to offer travellers and visitors: excellent walking country, local artisan’s shops and workshops and of course, numerous tapas bars

Rare in Andalucia are the amount of water-related sites close by. The Padul Lagoon with its diverse birdlife, the majestic gorge of the Durcal river and the reservoirs of Rules and Beznar. There are major walking routes such as the GR7 which goes from Tarifa in the extreme south-west of Spain to Athens and the Sulayr in the Sierra Nevada, a route following the once abandoned mills which are now being lovingly restored and provide one of the major attractions of the valley.

The agricultural heritage of the area is well preserved with much of the traditional cultivation which dates from the time of the Moors still in place. Olives, oranges and lemons are still watered by the water courses built centuries ago, in places dating from Roman times.
